Name: Thyme
Scientific name: Thymus vulgaris
Other names: Common thyme, English Thyme, summer thyme, French thyme, garden thyme
Family: Labiatae or Lamiaceae
Possible uses: nervous disorders, angina pectoris, flu, coughs, stomachaches, "blood purifier," cramps, spasmodic coughs, bronchitis, whooping cough, emphysema, asthma, antispasmodic, expectorant, antimicrobial, lowers arterial pressure, increases heart rhythm, increases respiratory volume, lowers blood pressure, alleviates toothaches, antiseptic, antifungal, antimicrobial, mouthwash, Candida infection, athlete's foot, toenail fungus
Part of plant used: leaf, plant, oil
Active constituents: eriodicytol, thymol
Possible side effects: oil is toxic if ingested
Contraindications: sensitivity to blood thinners, pregnancy (large amounts)
Drug interactions: anticoagulants
