Scientific name: Allium tuberosum
Possible uses: seasoning and garnish
Part of plant used: fresh leaves
Description: Bulb-forming perennials with flat or hollow leaves and round clusters of small flowers. Many, including onion and garlic, have pungent leaves and bulbs, but the flowers may smell quite sweet. A hardy perennial that makes a more slender, erect clump than regular chives. Thin, flat leaves have a mild garlic flavor. Bears lovely round clusters of white flowers on 2-3-ft. stalks in late summer or early fall. Zone 3.
How to Grow: Full or part sun. Average soil and watering. Easy to grow; just remove faded flowers to prevent rampant self-sowing.
