Description: tender perennials with ginger-scented rhizomes, leafy stems, and long-lasting flowers. Makes an upright clump of stiff stalks 3-6 ft. tall, with large, smooth, fragrant leaves that are held horizontally. Rarely blooms in containers, but plants established outdoors bear loose clusters of spidery flowers, white with red veins, in late summer. Spreads by creeping rhizomes. Zone 9
How to grow: Full sun. Average soil and watering. Plant in a sheltered site outdoors in zones 9 and 10. It will recover if frost kills back the tops. In colder regions, grow it in a container. Water freely and fertilize often during active growth, but hold back during winter dormancy. Propagate by dividing the rhizomes in spring.
