Description: Annual herbs with fragrant threadlike leaves and tasty seeds. A fast-growing annual. Seedlings grow quickly to make a low rosette of grayish green, finely divided leaves with wonderful flavor and fragrance. The stalks shoot up 3-5 ft. tall in midsummer, each branch topped with an umbel of tiny yellow flowers that ripen into flat round seeds. New cultivars such as 'Dukat' and 'Tetra' don't rush into bloom. All zones.
How to grow: Full sun. Ordinary soil. Does best in cool weather and can't take extreme heat or drought. sow sees where they are to grow in earl spring and again in midsummer for a fall crop. After the first year, watch for volunteer seedlings.
Active constituent: apiole
Possible side effect: miscarriage (if used in medicinal concentrations)
